I am a high school business and computer teacher. I have taught for 5 years. I throughly enjoy working with and getting to know my students. I can usually find a way to relate the material that the student is struggling with to something else that they understand. When they can make connections to more familiar things, then they can think themselves through problems more effectively. I usually achieve this by showing them how to do a problem, doing a problem or two with them, and then having them do problems on their own, only assisting when they need it.
I have always picked things up quickly, more quickly than my peers. My peers have often come to me to ask for my help in those areas. I also see how to apply what I have learned to original problems because I see connections and hold a deeper understanding of the material. I believe that all teachers should be life-long learners. All teachers should be informed on new best practices and be knowledgeable of current educational policies. These are the reasons that I belong to TESOL and the International Reading Association. In addition to belonging to these organizations, I have continued to pursue new knowledge by attending graduate classes at the University of Kansas. After I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1994, I continued my studies and received both my reading specialist and ESL endorsements.
