I have a unique educational background in wanting to be educated but obtaining a degree along the way. My classroom experience is board covering many disciplines and how they connect and overlap. Hence the desire to be educated, to be able to think, reason, wonder, explore ongoingly through out my life drives me still after all these years. A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a BA from Calvin College which has certified me to teach at the k-8 levels in social studies and liberal arts and have earned a Masters degree in Counseling Education (certified K-12)which has given me the ability to work wtih students who are difficult to motivate and achieve. During my years, I have gained a wonderful rapport with students of all levels (K-12) while working at Huntington Learning Center. My experience is with students of diversity in areas of culture, ethnicity, social, and a wide range of ability.
I know that students can work and achieve if the right kind of motivation is given. Each child has their own learning style and interest which needs to be taken into consideration when working with thenm and then to be taught in that mode and style. I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same. I try to envision at least 3 different ways of approaching a problem, I discuss material but let the students ask questions which I then tailor my explanations toward. Everyone sees a problem slightly differently and if you allow yourself an open mind and creative thinking often you can help them break through a difficult problem because you are able to see it their way.
