For the non-reading adults I started by teaching them letter recognition and basic sounds; moved on to simple words; then sentances. During my college class I would review the evening's lesson and goals, then have the students perform the exercise in the textbooks. During the practical exercise I made myself available to all the students and gave one-on-one instruction to those that needed it.

Throughout my undergraduate years, I was recognized as an outstanding student and held the maximum number of teaching assistant positions every semester.
