My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I am a classroom certified teacher and also been tutoring in this area for over 5 years.

I have over ten years of teaching. I have taught ELA,Reading comp, math, science at all levels. I have taught in public schools, private schools, charter schools and at post-secondary institutions. From Novemeber of 2008 until November of 2009, I was an English Teacher at Wilshire Korea Language School in Busan, South Korea. I taught children from the ages of 7 - 18. We covered conversational English, Reading, Essay writing, and listening comprehension.
I consider my teaching style to be interactive. I like for the student to be constantly involved in the lesson and not just listening. I have found that if the student participates more, the student will learn more quickly. I also believe students enjoy learning more if they have some input into the methods used to teach. I like to give them a few choices for activities to do. The student is more receptive to new material if they feel that they had a choice in how the material was introduced to them.

I have 16 years teaching elementary grades 1 through 3. During this time I taught Compensatory Education for 2 years in 1st grade, 4 years in 2nd grade and 1 year in third grade. In the Compensatory Education classes I would receive the poorest readers and worked with them throughout the school year. The 3rd grade Comp-Ed class all started as poor readers and ended the year by all passing the reading portion of the Texas TAAS test. I had a 1st grade class for 5 years and 2nd grade for 4 years. I also taught in Italy DoD Schools, taught basic skills to American GIs overseas, and I am currently a sustitute teacher for both Bastrop and Elgin ISDs.
