My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. My teaching style conforms to the learning style of the individual. Since no two people learn the same it is impossible to tutor the same way. I feel that once I have found a way to spark their interest and how they learn, it is much easier to help them acheive their goals and grasp the material.
