A Little Bit About Me...

During my freshman and sophomore year at Augusta State University, I tutored children at the Kid's Restart Center. The center is designed to assist foster children in their school studies. I specialize in elementary school children who are struggling with learning mathematics and reading. I have taken several advanced math courses and have a deep understand of the basic math and English skills students need to succeed over a lifetime.
I have worked with children for over ten years. I specialize in helping children who struggle with comprehending math and English. I understand that all children cannot learn in the same manner. As a tutor, I use several different curriculum materials to help students who do not learn with just paper and pencil alone. Math and English can be abstract to young students; and very difficult when one does not understand how to reach students. I believe I ... read more

I have always wanted to be a teacher, I couldn't really see myself doing anything else. I try to make learning and inclusive experience for all children. I feel that sometimes children's different learning styles get overlooked and then as a community we have a child that is left feeling that they are unworthy. My goal is to help all children learn at their pace and at their skill level, not at some standard set by the state. I want the children I spend time with to feel good about their learning experience and to enjoy themselves.
As a full time student and a full time employee of the General Electric Company I did not have the time to goof around. I had to be driven and utilize my time to accomplsh the most amount in the least amount of time. Therefore I have been able to use my experience to help students learn quickly and easily. When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.
Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or eve ... read more

I absolutely love working with children! I am currently a "Big Sister" in the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. In the past year, I have watched my "Little Sister" evolve from a shy, rebellious 8-year old to an outgoing, well-mannered, A student. I believe the one-on-one time she and I spend together has played a large role in her transformation. I was able to offer to her, the support she needed to succeed. I am eager to help others learn this same lesson of self-value and education.

I am very passionate about teaching and instructing young people. That is why I have spent time volunteering to teach English to children in Mexico, working as a counselor at youth camps for several years, and establishing a school outreach program for local art galleries. My education has given me the skills I need to tutor, instruct, and inspire students of all ages and circumstances.
I find that students benefit greatly by becoming active participants in the teaching process. I try to develop a curriculum that students help determine, and create lessons that center around topics that interest the students and apply to their lives in a real and practical manner. A Little Bit About Me...

I firmly believe that every child is capable of learning hard concepts, they just have to be taught in a way that is applicable to them. So I first like to get to know the student and try to figure out their learning style and teach them according to how they learn. This helps me figure out where the root of the problem is so I can fix it. Then I like to use a lot of visual and hands-on lessons because children need that to really grasp concepts and to apply it in different situations. I also like to question them to lead them to come to the answer and concepts themselves in order to increase their curiosity, desire to learn, and self-esteem.

The spark ignited in me as a young adult to work with children and adults, to help them gain skill and knowledge. I love to help a child or adult develop their potential as a skilled artist. It is exciting for me to see a person smile, as they recognize they can accomplish more than they ever thought they could. I work very carefully, adjusting my teaching to fit a student's current level of ability. I believe learning can be fun. Inside every person is a desire to better themselves. I feel honored when I have the opportunity and privilege to be that Instructor who reaches inside and brings out their hopes and dreams of success.
