I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15. Starting in his second grade year, we were joined by a student who has learning disabilities. He also thrived in the tutorial teaching environment. My desire is to work with children who really desire to learn but need that extra time and encouragement to succeed.

I believe learning should be fun regardless of one’s age and I will strive to make reading a fun as possible for each child I tutor. Reading for pleasure or to successfully complete a variety of assignments is very important to academic achievement and certainly enhances our personal lives. I believe all children can learn but they do so at different speeds and preferred methods. Constant encouragement and achievable goals help children reach their potential. As a teacher with the Colorado Department of Corrections for 28 years, I had the opportunity to teach several subjects at several levels. Through my experience I had the opportunity to teach reading at a very fundamental level to adults. I also taught math and English to inmate students studying for their GED. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to teach English as a secondary language to non- English speaking students. I helped develop and teach an English grammar curriculum for a Corrrectional staff class. In 2005 I was honored by my peers to be given the Correctional Teacher of the year for a 5 state region.
