For most students, essays are their number one issue. After they have told me their concerns, I like to read over the paper myself and any correct grammar mistakes I find along the way. I also sometimes write in comments in the margin to refer back to. If I have an issue or am confused about a certain session, I stop and ask the student. I also often read the sentence(s) aloud so the student can hear the what is wrong. If he or she still does not see an issue, I explain my concerns and we work together until we are both happy. After I’m done reading, I express any more concerns I have and once again work with the student until we are both happy. I also help with work cited pages. As a Bowling Green State University student who has studied Communication Disorders I have come across many experiences with children. Communication Disorders not only includes speech, but language as well. I have gained knowledge about how children read and write and why some children may have problems with this. As a graduate in Elementary Education, I have taught for 30 years in all subject areas, but have concentrated the last 15 years in the area of Math. I have also tutored students. I have been involved in all levels of education ranging from 4th grade to 8th grade. I have also taught Algebra to students as part of the Mathematics programs, in which I have taught.

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus.
