I worked for 12 years as a Special Education teacher in the public school system, teaching students with ADD, learning disabilities, autism, Aspergers, emotional and behavior disorders, and mild intellectual disabilities in a resource room and inclusion setting. I am able to quickly make significant connections with the students, building the good rapport that is essential to achieving a good working relationship. I especially enjoy working with reluctant and struggling readers, and nothing makes me happier than to see them overcome the obstacles that have kept them from success.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very flexible in my teaching style and have helped students who learn in very different ways. While I was working with the Reading by the River program I worked with four different students each of which learned in very different ways. From this I learned at a very early time in my life that it is crucial to cater to each individual students needs. I personally have a more analytical mind and analytical learning style however I have learned how to explain technical aspects of accounting in a variety of ways.

I have taught a variety of skills and ages, from 1st graders in piano lessons to elderly adult immigrants learning the English language. My greatest enjoyment in teaching is when a student ‘discovers’ their ability to overcome their negative self belief. I guide students through their learning process with gentle encouragement and patience. In this process I use a variety of teaching methods, the selection of which depends upon the learning style of the student.
