My comments on tutoring Spelling : I worked as a teacher in a private school for children with dyslexia. My position was as a Language Fundamentals Teacher and I was trained using the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. This is a multi-sensory approach and very highly regarded as a successful approach for children with dyslexia and reading disabilities. It includes tutoring for reading, reading comprehension, writing, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and other skills related to English basics. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development from Vanderbilt University with a specialization in Special Education and a Master's Degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Both of my educational careers involved extensive training related to infant and child development, special needs and high-risk infant, child, adolescent, and family populations, and internships within numerous developmental centers, schools, and hospitals.

I have worked with children and adolescents for over 30 years in various capacities and not only have a substantial amount of experience in varying types of special needs, but have very good rapport with children of all ages. I thoroughly enjoy them and they seem to pick up on that quickly. My approach to teaching revolves around determining the individual needs of the student, their strengths and weaknesses, and their particular learning style. I also feel it is very important to engage the student in participating as an important part of the learning process, gathering information on their likes and dislikes, their perception of their strengths and weaknesses, and what teaching techniques they feel work or do not work for them.
I have over 30 years of experience with infants, children, adolescents, and families, including work with infants and children in development of age app ... read more

I am a TUTOR, ready to teach when you are WILLING to learn.

My teaching style is very open. I want to talk and refer to text often. When it comes to just learning English period I am very cultural and I take advantage of the auxiliary sense and make you put it to good use. It can be a tad rough trying to explain the context of English without the content. The content are the random people having everyday conversation. Of, course you need to know the logistics and grammar but, I am a firm believer that you can't possibly know where a comma goes if you don't know what your saying or how. When it comes to textual work such as; Grammar, Language Arts, Spelling, Creative Writing, Theater, and Literature I first go to the text because its the base. We always need a base to drift back to. I am very fun, hands on, and open minded. Learning can be fun if you like to have fun! Email me on personal email if interested in my services: Hopkins.yasmeen@yaho ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having earned a bachelor's degree in Theology and Apologetics with superior academic achievement,I have challenged myself academically, and developed excellent writing and argumentative skills. I have written extensive research papers, and successfully defeated many opponents in classroom debate. I served as a tutor for Homeland Park Elementary for one year during my college career.
There have been numerous studies showing that different types of learning exist, and it is my belief that each individual student needs to be taught through adaptive teaching methodologies. I believe that everyone is unique, and each student needs to develop their own style of learning. It is the job of the educator to discover those different styles and implement a teaching method that is most advantageous to the student.

I have been pursing my degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of South Carolina. I chosen to take a hiatus from the University so that I can gain more experience working with young children in an educational setting. During my time at the University I gained valuable knowledge and experience with developing lesson plans, assisting teachers and interacting with young children. I want to use my academic experience and love for children and their parents. I am also looking for an environment to increase my knowledge and grow professionally. I also will be receiving my Associates Degree in Arts, May of 2010.
I love working and being with children. I believe that all children learn new things in their own way. I am very patient and out-going. My main goal is to motivate and provide the best teaching possible.
