I have 12 years of teaching experience in grades 2-5. This is my first year out of the classroom, therefore I am very knowledgeable about the changing and increased expectations that your child is facing. Each of us are blessed with a special talent and mine is teaching. I am very passionate about education and have been very successful teaching children the skills and strategies necessary to succeed in all of their core subjects. I feel that a child needs to feel comfortable to learn. I will create a connection with your child to make him feel very comfortable and secure to increase interaction and confidence, which will lead to success. I also feel it is important to make learning relevant to my students by using real life examples. Children want to know why they need to learn certain things and I will show them how their knowledge is essential to being successful in life.

I have tutored friends and family for 4 years. I have also tutored others while in school and after school for 3 years. While tutoring, I try to find a way to help the student learn by finding a style that fits their personality; therefore, I do not have a preferred teaching style. I've tutored kids ages 6-14 and enjoy doing it.

My teaching style is best described as eclectic. While I am organized and focused, I vary my instructional methods to incorporate diverse activities and materials to engage and interest students. By understanding human behavior and acknowledging the many different learning styles of students, I easily establish and maintain an excellent rapport with students and parents alike. As a result, there is a strong level of trust that develops which also allows me to provide direction in working towards realizing shared goals and objectives. When faced with challenges, I succeed in utilizing a variety of strategies to motivate and encourage positive interactions. Over the past 20+ years, I have worked with students from Pre-K through the college level. The commonality that I have found is that reading is the one thing that students need to be able to do and do well in order to be successful.
