Experience Summary
Over the past 20+ years, I have worked with students from Pre-K through the college level. The commonality that I have found is that reading is the one thing that students need to be able to do and do well in order to be successful. Since reading is fundamental life skill, I chose to become a certified reading therapist using the Phono-Graphix Method of instruction through Read America. I have worked as a professional tutor and private instructor for the past five years and love what I do! Although my speciality is reading instruction, I also tutor elementary mathematics, social studies, science, and all levels of language arts.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is best described as eclectic. While I am organized and focused, I vary my instructional methods to incorporate diverse activities and materials to engage and interest students. By understanding human behavior and acknowledging the many different learning styles of students, I easily establish and maintain an excellent rapport with students and parents alike. As a result, there is a strong level of trust that develops which also allows me to provide direction in working towards realizing shared goals and objectives. When faced with challenges, I succeed in utilizing a variety of strategies to motivate and encourage positive interactions.
