Physics is one of my top subjects!

I currently am a senior at the University of Cincinnati studying Computer Science. Before my freshman year I was a part of the summer bridge program as a part of Emerging Ethnic Engineers through which community service plays a large pay role. Each summer during my college career I would assist the incoming summer bridge students with their studies which include a rigorous math and science curriculum. My personal favorite topic to assist with is physics. Furthermore, during the school year we would partake in math help nights where we would assist K-12 with problems they are having in their subjects.
I prefer a more open style to assisting students, where I go over their work issues and try to spark a conversation through which I can get a better understanding of the students reasoning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have formal classroom teaching experience as well as experience as a one-on-one tutor. I've served as an adjunct instructor in physics University of Cincinnati for 5 years teaching undergraduate physics. This involves teaching basic math skills such as vector addition as well as physics concepts. I've also done one-on-one tutoring for high school calculus.
Strong emphasis on problem solving as a route to learning in either math or physics, since that's where rubber meets road. I stress that students understand fundamental terms and definitions, since trouble in problem solving and school exams is often rooted in confusion about basic terminology and rules involved in vector math, momentum, etc. Can tutor either one on one or in small groups. The plus side of small groups is that students still get lots of individual attention, but can also tackle group problem solving activ ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Before heading over to college, I tutored children whose ages range from pre-school to high school. I tutored them in math, science, grammar, and piano. Class size ranged from 1 to 15. During the years, we have formed a strong bond, and I make it a point in my return trips home to see them! As a result, I form a connection with those that I tutor in order to understand their way of thinking and maximize learning. Each child is unique, and I try my hardest to fit the child’s needs. If your child is active, that is okay! I am enthusiastic and energetic. If your child is shy, that is okay! I am friendly and light-hearted. While in college, I focused on tutoring elementary and middle schoolers in math, science, and grammar. Moreover, I tutored college students in general chemistry, biology, and physics. Therefore, I have the ability to teach children who have a wide range of educational b ... read more

Math and Science Tutor high school to college age.

Tutored for about ten years as needed. Experience with high school and college math and science. I am working toward a nursing degree and intend to complete a degree in mathematics education for high school ages. My past tutoring experience has included all high school math and Calculus 1 for college, for science I have experience in tutoring chemistry primarily. However, I'm comfortable tutoring in anatomy and physiology if the need arises.
Flexible, I try to adapt the material to the student's learning style and needs. Emphasizing the points that they get, and using analogies to clarify the information as needed. I love working in small groups and seeing people "get it."

More About This Tutor...

I love science and love to teach! I believe that teaching is an intentional effort. It’s not just about presenting information, but also about motivating. I set high standards, but also emphasize that science can be fun. As a tutor, I will provide a positive environment that focuses on what can be done, not on what can’t. My teaching approach is hand-on and my experience as a consultant provides me with a variety of real-life examples of how science is used and applied. Whenever possible, we’ll look beyond the textbook and translate to an application so that information “sticks”. I also emphasize good writing skills and organizational thought.
My education includes degrees in Biology, Environmental Science, and Education. Some of my coursework included botany, zoology, chemistry, physics, ecology, scientific methods and writing. As an environmental consultant for the past 23 years, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy incorporates 3 concepts. My teaching is student centered, success focused and goal oriented. This means that instruction is given taking into account the student's experiences. Success focused means that the level of material is appropriate to the student creating pooportunities for the student to be successful and then allowing the teacher to build on those successes. Goal oriented means that each activity and lesson has specific learning outcomes.

More About This Tutor...

As an Liberal Art graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Biology and BA in Liberal Arts which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study.
As a science instructor of alternative public educator, I have worn multiple hats or “roles” when instructing. Knowing when to wear the right hat influences learning experiences. Three instructor roles that I have already identified are of “being yourself , being role model and being the expert in the subject area” to be taught in the classroom by managing student behavior and intellectual needs to succeed in life. The roles that I have experienced are as a task maste ... read more

I believe that the job of a tutor is to put themselves out of a job. I am known for asking questions instead of just giving answers to students. This is in an effort to help the student see how to break down a problem and allow them to develop that skill for future problems. I am big about understanding how to do a problem over just knowing how to do it. Understanding is more flexible and will serve a student better when it comes to taking the tests and when working on homework or studying with out the tutor present.
While working on my BS in Physics and BA in Mathematics, I worked several years in the department tutor labs. This setting forced me to be quick in helping the student figure out the problem before moving on to helping another student. I was also responsible for a supplemental instruction lecture for the business mathematics course. I also have spent several years tuto ... read more
