LOVE TO TEACH!!

I have a calm, loving environment in my classroom. I expect the best from my students and they never let me down. I play classical music during their work time and allow them to work in partners, groups, and individually daily. I also hold what I call "workshops" for students who need that extra help with the lesson I just taught. It seems so much nicer than to negatively call the students back to my table that "don't get it!!".

I obtained my BA in English Communication from Talladega College and also i have a minor in History. I have had a great deal of expereince in writng papers, essays, articles ,and reports. During my time in college, I also tutored Spanish speaking students in the usuage of the English language.
I would say my teaching style is more relaxed. I believe this helps one see students weaknesses and strengths better. It also allows one to compare the overall effect of teaching for each student. I enjoy helping children discover new areas, encouraging them to move way from the trite and trivial to new and daring concepts in their research. Often a trivial fact that they never knew will open the doors to opportunities they never envisioned. I try to find out the learning style of the person I am teaching and use that as my primary teaching style. Some people learn better by hearing, some by reading or seeing and some by doing. I think focusing on the style that the person prefers to learn and then backing it up with the other styles to reinforce what they have learned is the best way for the student to retain the information. I think it is important to include all 3 styles no matter which way the person learns best because they need to be able to learn in the style their other teachers use as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is based on my belief that my purpose is that the student learn the material. If that means backtracking and presenting the material in a different manner or using more examples then that is what I will do. Especially in math and accounting, the building blocks must be solid in order to advance so I do concentrate on each step being strong.
My parents were both educators and my daughter is a professor, so I can say in all honesty that education has been a most important aspect of my life. I have been very successful as a college instructor and a tax school teacher. Many students struggle with relationships and well as their academics. I believe in creating a safe, nuturing environment were a student is able to work at his own pace, at his own level, and feel a bond with his teacher. Setting realistic and obtainable goals with the student is a key factor to success. Measuring and documenting progress allows student, teacher, and family to see a visual record of growth.
