What I like most about tutoring is the great nervous energy and excitement I feel as I work with children, this despite the fact that I have been tutoring for over 5 years. A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.
Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. The University of Florida has provided me with a well rounded education, and I feel myself knowledgable in many areas, from languages like french, spanish and hindi, to the sciences like chemistry, biology, and physics. I have also taught scores of friends and relatives how to sail and water ski over the past three decades. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed questions so that their minds can understand the process versus simply memorizing the answers. I also believe in providing both positive feedback as well as constructive criticism where needed.

While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy. I have 3 children that I have had to help with their homework and projects throughout the years. I enjoy working with children and believe education is the key to developing responsible adults.
