My comments on tutoring Microsoft Excel : I have used Excel to search for terms in text and create a customized document, to track retirement account performance, to perform many calculations of for engineering tasks, etc. I have recorded macros sometimes when appropriate and occasionally created a Visual Basic macro that is not simply recorded.

Lead the student to find the right answer himself or herself if possible.
I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975.
