Prior to pursuing my teaching degree, I operated an in-home daycare center for ten years for ages 6 mos. and up. A Little Bit About Me...

There are many buzz words and phrases applied to teachers and teaching styles. While I perfectly respect all of these new theories and methods of both teaching and learning, it must not be forgotten that each student is unique in their style and commitment. Otherwise, they would not need tutoring! Creativity and patience are the keys to discovering the specific style that best suites the student. That being said, I do of course have a "style". I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics.
