Learning should not have to be boring! I am continually looking for fresh teaching materials and try to inject some fun into my lessons.
I have just begun working as a tutor and have one middle school student whom I am helping with English and Social Studies. Both of my high school aged daughters take French and I regularly help them and one of their classmates with language homework, as well as with history, language arts, and writing. If students lack motivation or direction, it’s often because they are trying to perform an advanced task without basic skills. For example, many students know about the “five-paragraph essay” format, but don’t know how to organize the individual sentences. The first part of my philosophy focuses on providing students with these basic skills, as doing so prepares and makes them eager to face their assignments.
