A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach one-on-one or in small groups. The greatest moment for me, as a teacher, is what I call the “Aha!” that I see in a student’s eyes when he/she finally understands a troublesome concept. I believe that teaching is about empowering my students to take responsibility for their own learning. I want to help my students in clarifying their own values and provide the opportunity to explore and discover answers to the questions they create; I want my students to analyze, compare, and evaluate the answers they discover. My objective in attaining a Ph.D, was to create the opportunity for myself to teach Biology related courses at any level. My graduate school experience was a fantastic springboard for gaining experience in teaching an array of biology courses. As tutor for an academic excellence program, I worked with students, in small group settings. We explored complex material at depth, and inspired ownership of the learning process. As a college graduate I was motivated to find a job and begin my career. I have decided that after three and a half years of hard work through school and a gratifying 3 years of labratory experience (including 6 months of post-graduate full time work) that I am not ready for a career in chemistry. I have decided to slow the pace down and enjoy life for a while. I have lived in Aspen since December and worked for the SkiCo for that time.
