I began tutoring in high school then in college, I majored in mathematics to pursue a career in teaching. My career took another direction yet I continued my passion for teaching others through tutoring at local non-profits. Last year, I taught 8th grade math at a local public middle school. Teaching is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. I believe that everybody can learn, you just have to find the right teaching method for that individual. There are only a hand full of methods to choose from, they include: hands on, visual, reading, hearing or some unique blend of these. These are not the only methods, but these would cover most individuals. While I was teaching I would explain the material how I understood it. If that did not work it forced me to back up and come at it from a different angle. This process not only helped the students to understand the material, it also helped strengthen my understanding of the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

While having no actual formal teaching experience I find that I am always finding teaching opportunities in everything I do. At Brigham Young University I started out in the Elementary Education Major and then switched to Sociology because I found it fascinating. however, I still focused my classes on education and cultural studies subjects. Due to life circumstances I left college in 2003, two G.E. classes short of my degree. This year I have worked to finish these courses and will have my degree in July 2009. Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
