I was formerly a high school English Teacher and an ESL teacher. I taught one year overseas teaching English as a second language. For two years, I was an education supervisor at the Hawaii Job Corps, and it was my job to ensure that the students' academic needs were being met. I excelled at that job, but had to leave as I moved back to the mainland. I worked as both a tutor and a teacher for many years (10) and loved my career. I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words. While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law. It was through tutoring that I was able to help several students improve their grades, both through emotional support and exceptional knowledge in the subjects. As a graduate from BYU with a BS in finance and composite minors in accounting and economics, I moved into the medical management field.
