My comments on tutoring Poetry : I've taken a few poetry classes and know the ins and outs of most types of poetry.

I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. When students entered the center, it was my job to immediately make them feel comfortable by greeting them with a friendly smile and asking what I could help them with. After this, the students’ explained their assignment and expressed any concerns they had or anything their professors wanted them to work on. I then proceeded to read their paper and used my knowledge and experience to work with them to help revise and edit the essay. I have studied, worked with, and helped publish various forms of writing. These forms include scientific journal articles (APA) and analytic essays (MLA). They also include creative forms of writing such as narrative essays, fiction, and poetry. In addition to extensive experience with composition, I have volunteered for athletic coaching, piano tutoring, guitar tutoring, and music theory tutoring.

As an adult I realized that my true calling was teaching, and I advanced my education to become an educator. I am a third generation teacher and have a passion to help young students see their potential and achieve their dreams. Over the last eleven year I have spent 10 years in the classroom teaching eighth grade Language Arts, tenth grade through senior English. I have also taught World Literature, Speech I, Speech II, Drama, Debate, Group Discussion, and Speech/Composition. In the past year I have tutored students and worked as an ISTEP+ proctor.
