I have experience tutoring math over the last 4 years. I have been in the high level math classes throughout my entire life. I am a very thorough when i teach and make sure the student understands the material before moving on. I am extremely patient and make sure I move at a speed that the student understands. I have never tutored in other subjects but am comfortable with doing so.

I greatly enjoy teaching. Much of my style is entertaining and process oriented in nature. Story, metaphor and an understanding of the student having “the idea before the subject being taught” are vital. For me, the underlying concepts are of vital importance before true learning can occur. Knowing what a “mammal” is comes before knowing how we classify “mammals”. Generally, I am able to meet students where they are and utilize “foreword chaining” learning styles with frequent, non boring interactions to progress learning. Rote memory rarely works, but pneumonic, metaphor and story often do. I am very aware of differing learning styles, as well as differing modalities (visual, auditory, kinetic) of learning.

I have made several practical--as well as scholarly--studies of learning styles that inform my teaching style. I am a facilitative teacher, one who listens attentively and watches closely to determine my students' learning style preferences and abilities in order to help my students build new skills upon those strengths already developed. My greatest joy is the look on my students' faces when they come to understand something that has resisted their comprehension before I began working with them.

My teaching style varies for each individual student. To see a struggling student smile when they finally grasp a concept is very rewarding. I make my students think and do the work. The only way to grasp hard business and math concepts is through repetition and patience.
