I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free. I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.

As an engineer and manager, training employees was an integral component of work performed throughout my ten-year professional career. I created systems and procedures, followed by training and "tutoring" for successful implementation. I also worked for the university during my college years as a Chemistry coach. I tutored students 20-hours per week for four years, providing one-on-one and team services. In high-school, I tutored elementary students in mathematics and reading. More recently, I participated in the HOSTS program, which is a program for the advancement of reading in elementary schools. My style is relaxed, but focused, with a touch of humor to ease nerves. I have three degrees in the social sciences, Psych.(BA), Public Administration (US gov't) and finally, in International Relations. I have had the opportunity to teach in all three feilds - Critical Thinking(which draws from Psychology), US History, which draws on public administration, and Comparative Gov't (which draws on IR). I research and have publications in all three fields - and am currently researching public policy in the feild of environmental studies. I have had wonderful experiences teaching students of all ages and I think one of the best ways to reach students is to teach them individually.
