A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. I have experience as a volunteer tutor in social studies and math, a paid tutor in reading, a student teacher, and as a substitute for the last year and a half. I also have experience as a mentor to young people through the YMCA.
My teaching style revolves around the specific learning needs of students because each person not only learns differently but has specific strengths and weakness. As teachers it is our job to meet the needs of all learners. I do not believe in presently material in one way, or one way all the time.

A Little Bit About Me...

In all my endeavors I strive for variety. My collegiate career at UC Berkeley involved strong academics, competitive athletics and International Study Abroad experiences. My degree in Natural Resources focused heavily on science, specifically ecology, and multiple-use resource management with strong math and social science components. I complimented my core studies with classes on environmental literature and art which helped develop critical reading and writing skills. I have previous tutoring experience with high school math as well as the continual phone-call tutoring sessions with my 17-year old sister, which include Chemistry, Math, History and English! A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pass that on. I have done much reading when I was younger, exploring memory and mnemonics. I also took the Mega-Memory and speed reading courses by Kevin Trudeau. They are the ones that are in the Skymall catalog. I believe those really helped me in my studies, because I learned to approach learning the same way I approached sports. People would laugh in university when I would tell them that I never read anything for school late at night because I was tired and it wouldn't sink in properly, or that I would never eat a meal less than one hour before a test and I challenged them to try the same.

As a substitute teacher, I have learned to accomodate my teaching style to the environment in which I teach, as well as teaching age appropriate lessons. I have taught all subjects and many different ages, but I enjoy math the most. With my education counseling degree, I have achieved the knowledge to incorporate the student's learning style with instruction. Individualized lessons are necessary for the student's entire success. Repetition and experiential instruction seem to work the best for the students I have taught.
I enjoy working with kids and seeing the look of success in their eyes. Filling students with the "I can do it!" attitude is what I find the most joy in teaching.
