A Little Bit About Me...

What makes me a great tutor is my patience and understanding of a student in need. I believe all children are capable of success but sometimes may need a little extra help to get there. My teaching style is one of comparisons and analogies. Sometimes students just do not understand the mathematical terms. For this reason, I compare problems to something the student is familiar with, allow them to see the connection to the problem at hand and then guide them to solving the problem. This strategy has proven to be very successful and I've often had students tell me "You make it seem so easy!"

In my opinion my teaching would have to be considered unique. Usually I teach math in laymans terms and use analogie that students can relate to. Once the student understands the concepts I can then express the same ideas in the more rigorous mathematical terms. I also teach so that the student becomes active in his or her learning experience. I try to help the student to realize that math is not as difficult as it is made out to be. Over the course of my tutoring career I have employed a strategy of helping the student to understand more of the mechanics of mathematics and depend less on shortcuts that do not foster learning or, even worse, do not work. I would say that I have a great deal of patience and understanding. I am interested in furthering my education post graduate school with hands on learning experience.
