My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. In my opinion my teaching would have to be considered unique. Usually I teach math in laymans terms and use analogie that students can relate to. Once the student understands the concepts I can then express the same ideas in the more rigorous mathematical terms. I also teach so that the student becomes active in his or her learning experience. I try to help the student to realize that math is not as difficult as it is made out to be. Over the course of my tutoring career I have employed a strategy of helping the student to understand more of the mechanics of mathematics and depend less on shortcuts that do not foster learning or, even worse, do not work. Currently I am a organic chemistry lecturer at a local college but I have always been an advocate of education. I have a PhD in organic chemistry and a BS in chemistry. My background has allowed me to understand a range of topics from math and science to English. I have tutored students for over 11 years and I recently was a mentor to a high school student for two years.
I have loved to teach every since I was a young girl playing school with my younger siblings. Since that time I have observed several different teaching and learning styles.
