During my enrollment at the University of Arizona in Tucson, I tutored several students in advanced psychology courses as well as advanced English composition courses to undergraduates. I graduated from the University of Arizona with honors--a member of Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology and a memmber of Golden Key National Honor Society. After graduation, I tutored a high school student in geometry. Lately, I have been tutoring a fifth-grade student in math and reading. I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay with a degree in Elementary Education. Starting in high school I have been working with children in one way or another. I was a mentor to elementary students while in high school, where I helped with their homework as well as their language skills. While in college I tutored at an area middle school in all subjects that the students needed help with. During my student teaching, I spent the summer in Thailand teaching. While I was there, I was able to expand my teaching experience and learn different teaching techniques. I believe that all students are capable of learning but it just takes finding the right teaching method and approach that works for them. From my tutoring experiences last year, my teaching style would best be described as very proactive. Many of the students were extremely frustrated by the concepts that they did not understand. This created an apathetic attitude towards the subject. Due to the lack of interest that I observed, I decided to go through problem by problem with the students. I talked them through each problem, and asked the students questions, but required them to calculate the answer.
