My comments on tutoring PSAT: I took prep classes for the SAT but took this test mainly as an indicator of where i needed to focus for the real SAT. However, the tests are very similar and because of my expertise on the SATs I feel beyond confident in both my ability to teach the concepts and improve scores.

I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals. Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.

Tutoring Approach: I like to tailor my tuition depending on the student's individual needs as I understand and respect that each student is unique. The first step I take in my approach to tutoring new students is to understand and assess their strengths and weaknesses. I use different styles and methods of teaching depending upon the student's ability and attitude. My main method is to first listen to the student's problems and help them to come to the correct solutions making sure that they understand and are involved in each and every step. I give my students the necessary confidence to ask me questions without any hesitation and often use everyday life experiences to explain subjects. I am inclined to use the reduction method . i.e. breaking down a large problem to small parts in order to make it understandable when I feel its appropriate . This method is particularly effective wh

I graduated from my Master's program with a 4.09 GPA and was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. I have taught in the public school system for over 7 years at all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 12. I have taught all subject areas as well as Special Education, Resource, and AIS Reading and Math. I also spent over 11 years in the construction industry working on highways, bridges and airports as a Project Manager and Surveyor. I trained other survey crew members and equipment operators in the use of the latest technical equipment like GPS for surveying, equipment automation systems, and robotic total stations. I teach through an experiential model which means that you will learn by doing as much as possible and I will base new instruction on things you already know. I am a very patient person and will review and reteach as many times as necessary so that you feel con

I am a firm believer that all children can learn if given every option to be successful. In order to achieve success, students should be surrounded with tools to help them learn and a positive learning environment is key. Teachers should not expect all children to learn at the same pace nor same learning style. I never give up on my students. Students need teachers who do not accept failure and teach perseverance. I have devoted my life as a mother of three and as an educator. I have earned a BA in English and a Master's Degree in Special Education. In addition, I have dual certification in New York State. I am very knowledgeable in the areas of History, English, and Life Science. My students have a high success rate for passing New York State Regent's Exams.

I enjoy tutoring enough to do it for free, which I have done for my friends from time to time. I’m a friendly laid back person who loves to learn and help others learn, particularly in a one on one setting. I’m quite good at breaking a subject down into an understandable step by step process and making sure they not only know the answers, but how and why they got the answers. I’m good with kids and often would rather be with them instead of adults. Tutoring is one of my best skills, its just something I do well. I’ve tutored k-12 for Amsterdam, Gloversville and Johnstown in almost any subject, I have a strong math background particularly in algebra. I’m a good writer and do some freelance writing online at times. I have some experience with computer applications such as Photoshop, MS Publisher and PowerPoint. My BA. degree is in economics with a minor in business, I’ve completed some cou

I have been a full time tutor for the SUNY Research Foundation for four years and have tutored students in grades 6-9 in the areas of english, history, math and science.I am presently located at the Fort Plain High School with the research foundation program. Before this, I was a substitute teacher for three years in the following areas:math, science, english and history. This was also at the high school level. I am a firm believer that tutoring students one-on-one is very beneficial and gives the student the added time and experience needed to excel in a certain subject. I also believe that each student has a different learning style which should be emphasized during tutoring sessions in order to make the learning experience easier, and more effective.

I enjoy working with children and feel that they each have their own individual learning style. At times, I feel that conventional educational methods may fail some children. Educators must learn to be flexible, and allow students to learn in the style that they feel most comfortable. As a tutor, I feel that establishing a good rapport/friendship with my students before trying to "teach" them anything has been the most successful. If a child feels that you understand them and are interested and invested in their lives, you can become much more skillful at helping them to learn. As a tutor, I owe the students in my cohort the very best! I am committed to providing our children with the very best educational quality that I can, and am constantly try to improve upon my own skills. I earned a BA in psychology from SUNY Albany, and began to pursue my Master's in Education, but felt at the

I have put a lot of thought and effort into my teaching style. I love teaching and love working with all types of students. I believe in learning through a hands-on approach and through real-world applications. I beleive that all students have the potential to succeed and there is no such thing as a "dumb kid." I do my absolute best on a daily basis to make sure my students succeed. Becoming a teacher has been one of my life's passions. I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Adolescent Education and Mathematics and am currently working on a Master of Arts degree in Education, Curriculum, Instruction, and Mathematics. I have experience in teaching an array of mathematics classes from 7th grade Math up to Calculus and College Algebra. My love for teaching and working with children has allowed me to learn a variety of ways to help my students learn. Through the use of audio, visual and tactile manipulatives, my students have had some very exciting experiences and have succeeded in meeting the objectives set for them. I do believe in setting high expectations for each child and my experience has shown me that they rise to the occasion. My decision to become a pedagogue was due to the fact that I had wonderful teachers in my life who were supportive, kind and thoughtful. They inspired me to want to learn more and want to give more. I strive to make a difference in the life of my students also. As an educator, seeking excellence in the public and private sectors, I have been afforded the opportunity to work with students in Elementary up through Middle and High Schools as a pedagogue and tutor. I have been supervising other counselors since 1997 in their report-writing. I take pride in my writing skills in the face of a field riddled with nurses who prefer abbreviations to beautifully executed coherent sentences. The sheer eloquence of being able to deliver a report allowing the reader to infer the true meaning of your words, while not providing any statements that will give fuel to a legal representative is a time-earned skill. In addition to my writing skills, I have 14 years of business skills, extensive analytical skills, which transfer into expertise in geometry, and of course 20 years of experience as a counselor. I teach the way I counsel--by expecting self-responsibility. I use humor to enhance one's motivation to seek out and focus on one's strengths. I am not a coddler--I believe that higher expectations result in higher performance. When coupled with empathy

Through my own academic experience, I have a well-developed understanding of the skills and techniques necessary to achieve a high level of scholastic excellence. I am a trained educator, skilled in modern methods and strategies of teaching and learning. I have worked as a tutor for the Learning Center at The College of Saint Rose, where I tutored students in all areas of language, both written and spoken. I worked with ESL graduate and undergraduate students, and have also worked as a private tutor for high school students. I have a strong liberal arts background with proven excellence, as well as training as a professional educator. I firmly believe that teaching and learning is inextricably tied to subjective factors, and that students learn best when the material is presented to them in a way that is both accessible and interesting. I believe that meaningful learning takes place when

I don't think there is anything better than the feeling of helping a child learn. Every student have the ability to learn, we have to adapt our teaching styles so that all students can understand. Our job as teachers is to prepare students for their future. Through education and a caring, nurturing and creative teacher, that is what I hope to give all my students, a future. The brightest one possible. I began school as a Biology major for 2 years, so I have a great science background. I love to teach children. I finished my Masters program in December 07 and began teaching at the school I did my internship at, Briarcliff MS. I taught grades 6-8 and filled in for a Special Ed teacher at the end of the year. Also during that time I tutored a group of 6 graders in Math.
