I have made several practical--as well as scholarly--studies of learning styles that inform my teaching style. I am a facilitative teacher, one who listens attentively and watches closely to determine my students' learning style preferences and abilities in order to help my students build new skills upon those strengths already developed. I was a substitute teacher assistant for children with special needs ages 3-21, on and off for the past 6 years. With my years of being around and in an educational environment, I have picked up patterns of repetition and summary to reinforce ideas being conveyed. I, myself, learn best by doing. Through studying adult learning styles, I discovered that studies show utilizing all facets of learning - writing, audio, visual, and hands on - leads to the highest levels of retention.
