Degreed English/Reading/Writing Tutor With A Personal Touch!

Hello! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in psychology (3.5 GPA) in 2012 and have been tutoring English; ESL; reading; writing; and more for 8 years. I began as a volunteer through my university's writing lab, per recommendation by a cherished professor. I have worked with children and adults from a variety of cultures (South Korean; Venezuelan; Mexican; Turkish), and I have enjoyed playing the role of "student" in my own regard. I love to learn about other traditions and practices. One of the most rewarding experiences for me as a tutor was when I worked with a South Korean family for 1 year. While teaching two school age boys, I was privileged to be introduced to a bevy of Asian foods; practices; and even the Korean language itself. This family became my own extended family, and vice versa. This was a very poignant, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I gained a wealth of knowledge f ... read more

Inspired Educational Help!

I consider myself a very patient tutor, which I think is essential to the process. That said, I usually offer the student a few options in which to learn the material. I then let them decide which option makes the most sense to them. I believe Education and learning is a very personal process, which is why it should be tailored to each individual differently. *I am available to help with homeschooling students. Please contact me for more details!
I first want to start out by saying that I have a passion for what I do. I have over seven years of experience as a tutor and mentor and it has been a very rewarding experience. I am currently a Secondary/Special Education Graduate student and am enjoying the process of learning more about the field. I received a BBA in Accounting and History in 2009, so I also have a background in Business. I will always be glad and willing to tutor i ... read more

I believe all adults and children are different and various teaching styles work for some, while not others. I teach and show by example and like to give people practice while they are learning, while being available for any questions they have
I have worked with children and families within the social work field. I have facilitated training classes for adults as well as went to school with children to help them with their school work. I attended Thomas More College on an academic scholarship and graduated with honors in the spring of 2011 with a BA in Environmental Science. Presently, I am pursuing a Master of Biology degree at the University of Cincinnati, where I hold a University Graduate Scholarship as well as a Yates Scholarship. I worked as a private tutor from 2006 through 2011, and in 2008 and 2009 I also tutored through Thomas More College. Currently, I am an instructor for undergraduate biology labs at the University of Cincinnati.
I have worked with elementary, high school, and college-aged students, providing instruction in subjects ranging from English to biology. I am comfortable teaching a group, but I also have ample experience working one-on-one with students. I believe that course material should engage students. I do not believe that rote memorization is practical in most real-world situations ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!

I am not overbearing. I am laid back, but at the same time, I make sure that the student learns what he/she needs to learn. I am very patient. I try to respect the student and not make learning seem like a chore. Building a foundation of learning skills, even during a short tudoring session can really change a student's approach in all of their classes.
I have taken education classes at Northern Kentucky University. At one point, I was considering on being a Art Teacher. I didn't finish with that path, but I did gain much experience with children and knowledge during that time in working with students. I have worked and studied special needs children as well. I still consider going back for a Master's at some point in education. I think this job would be beneficial in my goals, and for my students, and a great learning experience for us both.

I have a friendly teaching style; I use a lot of sense of humor. But, this takes a lot of hard work to achieve. The reason I am able to teach French grammar in a non-intimidating, almost very relaxing way, is because I had to master it. I have a way of getting closer to my students and to their difficulties by having the ability to relate almost every chapter I introduce to my personal experiences. And, I have anecdotes almost about any new topic I present. I am a story teller in that sense. Sometime my students beg me to tell them more anecdotes. I tell them if they want to hear more stories, they have to do this, or that. And almost always agree with smiles that seem to say “you got us!”

I have always been passionate about working with different students and finding their unique learning strategies. I am supportive and very patient, but persistent in the achieving success for the student. My ultimate goal is above teaching subjects. It is to provide the student with a love for learning and the skills needed in tackling academic tasks.
Having graduated with a BS in Mathematics I am now continuing my passion for learning while pursuing a masters degree in Nurse Anesthesia. My liberal arts degree from Hillsdale College has given me extensive work in all areas of learning. A Little Bit About Me...

Gaining and sharing knowledge has been a driving force throughout my life. Literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children. Having taught grade levels from preschool to adulthood, I know that everyone learns in their own unique manner and at their own time. My experiences span not only various age groups but different subjects as well, including math, algebra, biology, history, literature, Spanish, grammar, reading/phonics, study skills, and beginning dance. I have taught in the classroom for 11 years and tutored for over 20 years.
I match my teaching style to the learning style of each individual. My first session with the student is when I can determine whether their learning style is visual, audial, tactile, kinesthetic or a combination of these. I then write a prescription of study with the student that include several objectives and a timeline to achieve t ... read more

I’m a strong believer in the learner centered knowledge building. Not all learners are the same, and that means not all facilitation should be same. My goal is to establish a relationship with learner that enables me to transfer knowledge in a meaningful way to them. I like to meet the learner where they are, and allow for them to explore, and be challenged through the constructivist approach to learning. As part of the learning process, I am a big supporter of reflection and emotional engagement. These methods to a good and effective knowledge building process can be implemented in various environments and spaces.
Being raised in a home with educators greatly influenced who I am, and how I view the building of knowledge. While I earned my B.S in psychology and minored in business, I participated in after school tutoring programs for a local public school. My studies of c ... read more

I hold a Ph.D. in Classics, a multidisciplinary field that focuses on all aspects of the ancient Greek and Roman world. I have mastered Latin and Ancient Greek, and can read Spanish, German, French, and Italian. During my five years working full-time at various universities, I taught literature, history, mythology, archeology, and all levels of Greek and Latin. My expertise in English grammar, and in reading, writing, and organizational skills, is evident in the book and article that I have published. Math, moreover, was always a strong point for me, and I am very good at helping elementary school students in that area. My competence in such a wide range of subjects makes me an excellent candidate for many tutoring assignments. Recently, I tutored a 2nd grader in Reading and Math, an 8th grader in English, Latin, and Study Skills, and a 10th grader in Latin. I am presently assisti ... read more

In high school I took AP calculus classes, earning college credit and fulfilling the math requirement for my undergraduate degree. I tutored my peers in math while earning my BBA in finance, and taking elective classes in accounting and economics. I also worked for a tutoring service, helping high school students with math and SAT and ACT prep. I am currently a candidate in the Certified Financial Analyst program.
I love children and I am a patient and caring teacher. My mother is an educational diagnostician and an expert on learning disabilities and different learning styles. As a result I believe I have special insight into the way children learn and I can adapt my teaching style to fit the individual needs of each child I tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with learners of all ages. I believe everyone learns at their own speed and that learners should be empowered to ask the questions they want answered. By doing so, they help set the agenda and pace of their learning, which ensures their motivation and full engagement in their educational process. My learner-centered approach has been developed during 20 plus years as an English professor and fifteen years as a father. My style incorporates the Socratic dialogue method to engage your student in dialogue that accepts and validates their questions and concerns. I have been told that my teaching style is inclusive, not overbearing, patient, and low-key. My students gain self-confidence in their new skills and abilities and have gone on to become lawyers, doctors, writers, editors, and teachers of English. I have helped thousands of learners advance in their studi ... read more

As a University of Cincinnati Graduate, I have really taken interest in giving back to those that are in need. Nursing is my passion and educating my patients and families on the importance of good health and wellbeing is truly my priority. Although I have dealt mostly with young adults to the elderly, I have also helped out with elementary age students. I have several nieces and nephews, who in my free time I spend at their schools helping them and their classmates with different subjects. I am strong in the health sciences, maths, and I also know Spanish.
I truly love all age groups however it is just something about children and the elderly that bring joy to my heart. I believe that teaching should be fun, and the style should be made so that everyone can understand and receive the knowledge that is being placed before them. I find that my nursing career has made me even more pa ... read more

My teaching style revolves around the idea of mastering important aspects of a subject area before moving to a more difficult subject area. In our current education system, students are allowed to move to more difficult courses without having the necessary building blocks. Through one-on-one tutoring, it is possible to take a couple steps back, assess a student's current capabilities and tailor lessons to the individual student (i.e. one student may need to back track and practice fractions before moving on to more difficult algebra). I also enjoy working with students are looking to excel beyond their grade level by challenging their problem-solving capabilities with new ideas and techniques in a variety of subject areas.
