Experience Summary
Hello! I earned my Bachelor of Arts in psychology (3.5 GPA) in 2012 and have been tutoring English; ESL; reading; writing; and more for 8 years. I began as a volunteer through my university's writing lab, per recommendation by a cherished professor. I have worked with children and adults from a variety of cultures (South Korean; Venezuelan; Mexican; Turkish), and I have enjoyed playing the role of "student" in my own regard. I love to learn about other traditions and practices. One of the most rewarding experiences for me as a tutor was when I worked with a South Korean family for 1 year. While teaching two school age boys, I was privileged to be introduced to a bevy of Asian foods; practices; and even the Korean language itself. This family became my own extended family, and vice versa. This was a very poignant, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me, and I gained a wealth of knowledge from this experience. Being able to truly impact just one life is what makes my work so worthwhile - that immediate gratification is long-lasting. PLEASE CONTACT ME: nicole.r.forbus (at) (gmail) (dot) (com). Thank you!
Teaching Style
I try to customize my sessions per my clients' needs. Everyone has their own unique learning style, and there are challenges and strengths, alike, that materialize from those styles.
My Hobbies
Family is my absolute #1. I also adore dogs, and my black lab mix is the light of my life! I love to take her to the dog park and go on long walks - especially in the cooler months. I also love to do anything outdoors; writing poetry; going to concerts; traveling; and learning as much as possible. I am an amateur writer on the side - my proudest moment: being featured in the University of Cincinnati-College of Medicine's World AIDS Day 2007 collaborative. I felt truly honored...

Shakespeare
Read several of Shakespeare's works in high school; Honors English in high school
Spelling
I participated in my elementary school's spelling bee in 4th and 6th grades, respectively - I was the 2nd runner-up in 6th grade! I must say my greatest acumen is, quintessentially, spelling/vocabulary.
Writing
Along with Composition and Creative Writing, I have a definitive appreciation for - and understanding of - fine writing skills.
English ESOL
I taught ESL to a S. Korean family - 2 children and their mother - for 1 year. This is a tricky skill that requires serious fine-tuning and constant revision!

ADD/ADHD
I've tutored 3 children, respectively, with EITHER ADD; ADHD; or both. I have ample experience with various ages, both genders, and also different cultures. Highly creative, children and adults with ADD/ADHD simply need reformulated instruction, and I have learned how to design my lessons for each student per their needs.
