My comments on tutoring College Algebra : Took Algebra, and use mathematics daily.

Began as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in the Michigan Technological Universities (MTU) physics department as a physics lab TA for 3 years. Then I helped develop an Astronomy Lab and was the lab TA for a year. I then was a TA for a large lecture physics class for engineering students where I helped students on a 1-1 basis and helped the professor manage the class. In my final years as a Masters student at MTU, I helped run the online astronomy class and was the TA, grader, and developer of the assignments. Since moving to the University of Utah, I have been a TA for another large lecture class where I ran smaller sections for students to come and ask questions and get homework help. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies from student to student. However, the basic foundation is the same. I like to develop the fundamentals and build a foundation on top of them. I also like to see the students do a certain problem that they are struggling with in front of me. Moreover, I like them to talk out loud so I can follow their thought process and identify where they are struggling and help them better understand any steps that they have simply remotely memorized. In this manner, not only do they better understand the problem at hand, but they are also capable of tackling similar problems without any need of memorizing steps.

I enjoy helping junior high and high school students excel in all their subjects. Particularly, I feel it's important to relate their current studies to real life situations to help them understand the link between the theoretical material and practical solutions. I have tutored math and science for high school children at the West Midland Family Center for two years and am currently tutoring all five of my children in all subjects.
One of the key motivators for learning is the link between theoretical math or science topics and everyday problems that a student can solve using these skills. During my undergraduate studies I tutored at Delta College's Teaching/Learning Center for almost 2 years. While working there I received an award for Tutor of the Year. Delta College being a community college with a wide range of students I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds. I focused mainly in the areas of Mathematics and Computer Science. Since my job at Delta College I have also tutored privately.
