I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I am also very proficient in algebra and trigonometry, and I have taken one course in calculus. As a high school student I worked in an after school program tutoring children in grades 3 to 8 in reading and math. During college I volunteered in “one-on-one tutoring” where I met weekly with a student to tutor her in basic math. I also worked as a teaching assistant in the biology department of my college. Since a child, I have always been curious of the world around me. My interests culminated with the completion of two degrees in the natural sciences. I consider myself a true inter-disciplinarian, supplementing both my degrees with courses in applied sciences, economics and the arts, to improve my understanding of the connections between science and the world. This degree included a fair amount of science and so I am qualified to teach biology, chemistry, vocational agriculture, and horticulture. My graduate degree is an M.S. in Educational Administration. I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can reason through it themselves in a test situation.
