A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry, and throughout my school days I excelled in math and science and was often asked for help in understanding the class material by my fellow students. I was a teaching assistant for two years, and instructed chemistry laboratories. I also ran office hours to instruct students in the math and problems in the lecture course they were having problems with. I have mostly tutored in math and science.
I love teaching and seeing the student's eyes light up when they understand something that had been eluding them. I am patient and considerate. My teaching style tends to be by example, or by visual. I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. One young lady I tutored named Glenda Lenahan, having made an F on her first calculus test, requested that I tutor her. When she took the second test she mad a 98. I jokingly asked her what she missed! May 27, 2011, my job was eliminated. I had been helping my son with his calculus and physics and found that I still remembered much of what I knew before.
