Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I think teaching style should depend on the student. Some people move at different paces or learn better from listening or from doing the work themselves with supervision and help. I am flexible with any style and once I become familiar with a person it becomes easier to see how they learn best.
I have been attending Northern Illinois University for the past 3 years and so far have had a great experience. I am double majoring in Spanish and geography and have had good success in both subject areas with a cumulative GPA of 3.95. Local Chess Tutor - $20/hr

I learned chess very young but didn't start really getting into it until the first day of high school. My homeroom teacher had a chess board on his desk and asked me to play; I accepted his challenge and he then only took 4 moves to put me in checkmate. Three months later, i was finally able to beat him after heavy amounts of practice and lots of games with online opponents along with my fellow classmates. A couple months after that, with the same amount of practice, I could beat him without a problem.
