More About This Tutor...

I have a communicative and interactive approach to teaching. I believe that a child learns best when actively involved in the process of learning and discovery. I am also a very patient person and feel that a nurturing, calm and positive environment is the key to success in learning. I strive to expose my students to new ideas by sharing my travels and experiences with them. I challenge them to ask questions and follow their curiosity in the classroom and outside of it.
I started teaching while in college; I worked as a Teaching Assistant when school was in session (teaching college students) and as a camp counselor at a French immersion camp in the summers. This allowed me to work with students ages 8-22 and to develop different teaching styles for different ages. I am currently writing my PhD thesis; although the subject is Francophone, I'm writing in English and feel that I have ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need me to explain the subject material to them rather than read it from the book, while other students benefit most if they work through a problem and then ask me a question when they get stuck. Though regardless of the student, I always ask questions as we go, because I know that students learn best when they engage with the material.
I graduated this spring with honors from Carleton College. For my senior thesis in Math, three of my colleagues and I designed a Challenge Math curriculum for fifth grade students. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. When I moved to Boulder this summer, I began tutoring CU students, adults taking online courses, and high school students. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and GRE.

I love the interaction between a teacher and their students. For me teaching is a form of self discovery. My students are like mirrors in which I see my strengths and weaknesses. I constantly learn from my students and I grow as they grow. I feel as individuals we are limitless and teaching reminds me of it as I see my students grow. My students in turn gain confidence about themselves through the same process of discovery. I am a great believer in that education is a tool to learn about yourself and to exercise self belief and confidence in yourself. I not only teach subjects, but also teach students to learn about themselves.
As a Computer Science graduate, I have had extensive experience in Mathematics, physics, and computers. As I have always been passionate about teaching, I always taught while attending school. Teaching and tutoring experience: - High school calculus ... read more

As a graduate of the University of Maryland I had a desire to teach and help others in learning. With a BA in English Language and Literature with a concentration on ESL and an M.Ed. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), I gained the skills and knowledge necessary in achieving my goals. The BA in English helped me to gain the grammar reading and writing skills and the Master's degree to gain the instructional skills I needed. I also have traveled to eight different countries and taught at all levels of education and to all audiences. I have taught elementary, secondary, college, university and adult education. I also taught a wide range of audiences ranging from elementary students to businessmen and politicians in classroom and one-on-one situations. I put my knowledge and skills to practice by teaching the brother of the former President of Peru (Fujimori). A ... read more
