Completed three semesters of calculus, differential equations, linear math, statistics in college. Worked as a math tutor for the Department of Development Education at University of Alaska - Fairbanks for three years. Tutored algebra, some trig, some statistics. Helped students understand concepts and complete homework assignments from textbooks and a variety of computer based programs including Alex and WebAssign. If possible, I try to make the math relatable to the person - do they like to build? cook? etc.

My teaching style is hands-on wherever applicable, such as in a laboratory envioronment. I use a great deal of humor too, and expect lots of student participation. I am currently an electroincs instructor at UAF Community and Technical College. I have over 100 published technical articles, and am the recipient of the William Orr Technical Writing Award, conferred by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). I have just written a major book, "Radio Science for the Radio Amateur" to be published by ARRL later this year. For nearly ten years I was a development engineer for the UCLA department of Plasma Physics, and have worked in a number of different types of laboratories.

I am patient and dedicated to teaching the student not just math, but also to use their own textbook and resources to study on their own. When I tutor, I have another goal, second to having the student pass their math class: learning to study so they won't need to rely on a tutor. I also have a flexible schedule, and can easily adapt to the student's learning style. In high school, I learned to love the formulaic simplicity of algebra and during my years at UAF, learned to fully appreciate the beauty and tricky complexity of Calculus. I enjoy extending this appreciation and understanding to anyone willing to ask. My first tutoring experience was for an adult first-time algebra student at UAA. My teaching style varies depending upon the needs of the student. Some students require less one on one instruction and just want to be pointed in the right direction. Other students require the subject to be explained in several ways making the information personal and applicable to their specific situation and experiences. I am an electrician in the Air Force, which has driven me to excel in everything I do. I have earned a bachelor degree in Occupational Education.
