English ESOL is one of my top subjects!

I am a senior college student at The University of Alabama. I speak English and Arabic fluently and fully confident with the basics of the French language. I am also a McNair Scholar and I conduct academic and professional research. Besides being a student and a scholar, I volunteer my free time to tutor students. Because I enjoying tutoring I most of the time don't charge the students. I certainly have a passion to help students and have been tutoring for years.
I am very patient. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my clients are comfortable with me. Therefore, my teaching style really depends on the client. I teach which way will be best for my client. Before I begin teaching, I tend to ask my clients about their studying habits in order to understand the ways the best help them succeed and, also to see if there's any improvement need to be taking.

I love teaching middle and high school level students. I also enjoy working with adult English language learners. I believe to be successful in teaching, a teacher has to keep an open mind, because each student is different and his/her learning strategy is different. I believe collaborative method works best for students, because students will have to opportunity to learn from their peers in the classroom. Before beginning a lesson, a teacher has to find out the level of his/her student. Once the teacher is aware of the weakness and strength of her/his students, she/he can organize the group in the classroom. If the student is in lower level, then a traditional approach works better to start a lesson.

I am an August 2009 graduate of the Adult Education/ESL program at the University of Alabama—Birmingham. I chose to study adult ESOL because I believed it would complement my undergraduate academic background in International Studies, and I have never been disappointed. Since the summer of 2006, I have served as an ESL instructor in a free class for adult learners at Shelton State Community College. Our adult learners include pre-literacy clients, international students desiring to attend university, but unable to afford paid second language instruction, and all levels of academic achievement in between these two extremes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent the better part of the past 12 years teaching grammar, creative writing, literature, and basic English structure. I have my BFA in Creative Writing and my BA in English from Arkansas Tech University, and I have my MA in English from Highlands University. I have taught all levels of college composition, creative writing, and American Lit. Also, I have taught English at the high school level. Also, I have a minor in American History.
