My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am deaf and I have been a signer since the age of 2. ASL is my first langauge and I can certainly help you make it one of your langauges.

When I tutor you, this will be a classroom style expierence. 1. I will teach Vocabulary initially 2. I will assign books to be read so we can have a discussion about the history of Deaf Culture 3. As we progress you will learn syntax, structure and conversational skills 4. I will also assign you to attend Deaf events so you can learn how to interact with the Deaf community at large and practice signing with people who have diffrent styles 5. There will be tests and quizzes. History: If there are school assignments I can help you understand what went on with the history in query. I will help one research for papers.

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am hard of hearing; I can speak and hear some words. I have a deaf family and have signed my entire life. I have experience teaching people Sign Language and love spreading the language!

I am hard of hearing myself and have a deaf family. Therefore, I have signed almost my entire life as I grew up in a house where Sign Language and Spanish was used. I have tutored Sign Language to people in college and have used my skills to teach in different schools. I love teaching Sign Language and seeing people use the language to communicate with other deaf people and even with their hearing friends.
I believe that people learn best when they are taught in the teaching style that most benefits them. I can use pictures, objects, or puzzles to teach someone Sign Language.

I take learning seriously but I also make it fun.

I have an associate's and a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language/ English interpretation issued by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I am currently working as an interpreter full time at a high school. I have worked for Arkansas school for the deaf. I have Ark credentials for interpreting (level 2/2). I have passed both the written portions of the Texas certification test for interpreting (BEI) and I have passed the written portion of the EIPA, the national certification test for educational interpreters. I will be taking my performance portion of the EIPA next month (Dec).
I first need to know what stage the student is in his/ her learning and what he/she is working on in class. I have sign language books and videos. I will work with the student to make sure he/she is understanding and doing the signs correctly.

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am fluent. I have taken ASL classes for the past eight years.

My teaching style is a demonstrator. I like teacher-centered classes with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. I try to act like a role model by demonstrating skills and processes and then as a guide in helping students develop apply theses skills and knowledge.
