While pursuing my own studies in college, I realized that I not only love learning but that I love to increase learning in others as well. Because of this, I spent many hours throughout college volunteering to tutor calculus and chemistry students. During my last two years of college, I worked as a chemistry teaching assistant, a position that allowed me to teach chemistry to groups of 25 college students. As evidence of my effectiveness and clarity in teaching, I won four undergraduate teaching awards during this period. As I prepared for Medical School, I wanted to achieve the most possible out of my undergraduate experience at Brigham Young University. I chose Biology as my major, knowing that it would challenge me. I took several courses in Biology and Chemistry in which I performed very well. I understand how frustrating the concepts in these subjects can be, so patience is what is needed to grasp them. I have helped several fellow classmates comprehend the concepts needed to do well on their exams and retain the information for the future.
I feel that repetition is one key that helps students grasp difficult concepts. I start by helping the student understand what the question is asking. Then I will do a problem step by step, showing the student what I am doing.
