My dissertation explored five hypotheses, and I found statistical significance in all five; thereby supporting the notion that adding online instruction to traditional instruction can improve student learning. My "teaching style" changes depending on the needs of my students. In all cases, an initial assessment of both the academic level and the temperament of each student are necessary before I establish a particular style. Some students are comfortable with a quieter, more formal tutor, while others are successful with a more casual, animated tutor. In every situation, I look for opportunities to give positive reinforcement. For example, I usually warm-up with material the student feels relatively confident about, then add new or more challenging concepts, and end with the student feeling successful practicing on his or her own.
