A Little Bit About Me...

My doctoral dissertation examined college-level remedial reading and writing students in an effort to determine if adding online instruction to traditional instruction would improve student performance. My dissertation explored five hypotheses, and I found statistical significance in all five; thereby supporting the notion that adding online instruction to traditional instruction can improve student learning. While I was a doctoral student, I was also a Merit Scholar. In addition to my teaching, I have also tutored elementary, high school, and college students in reading, writing, and the understanding of Literature. I have also worked a great deal with ESL students.

Students learn best when they feel vested in the process of learning and excited about the journey; it is always my goal to convey my passion for the learning experience and my partnership with the student in that process. I am a firm believer in active learning and thus avoid rote memorization exercises and merely showing students how to do something. I help them to wrestle with the materials, to look at concepts from every possible angle, and to learn the importance of synthesizing information and determining what is wheat and what is chaff. I am patient and friendly with my students, but my focus is always on preparing them as learners.
