I have tutored many people in several subjects over the years and find the work fulfilling. I recently have graduated out of the education system and am well aware of what it takes to succeed. Normally I would have them write something and then we would look at their work together and discuss how we could improve it. Once they see how they write, and then learn what they need to do to improve that, and why, they start to incorporate that writing style. We may write up templates, or dummy copies, so that they have something to refer to the next time they need to write a similar project. It isn't about showing them what they aren't doing, but showing them what they can do and how they can improve that.
