A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a pre-school teacher for two years in Syracuse, NY, where I was motivated to enter into the field of education on a permanent basis. I went back to school to attain my masters degree in education in 2008, and finished student teaching in December of 2009. I am accustomed to teaching children from various backgrounds, and learning styles. I am eager to initiate a career in education and serve the students in the greater Cortland county area.
I love teaching, working, and playing with children. I believe that children learn most effectively from using both a hands and minds-on learning/teaching style. As all children come from differing/diverse backgrounds, I utilize communication with both the students and parents in order to effectively teach said child. I try to involve as many senses as I can when illustrating new concepts and ideas. Math manipulatives are essential elements for early math comprehension. Whenever a game can help solidify ideas, it is utilized and learning is always fun. Children reach benchmarks, such as reading independently and math computation at different rates, so it's important to be consistent but very patient and encouraging. A solid reading foundation is the greatest gift our children can receive. Comprehension is a key factor to understanding any subject at all.
Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH.
