A Little Bit About Me...

I believe you can only help the student learn if you are willing to take time to "bend down" to their understanding and help lift them up. As a person that easily empathizes with others, it is natural for me to take time to understand the person who I am tutoring. Through building trust with that person I can naturally help them to understand what they may be missing or not understanding. Through helping the student know that I care about their learning at a personal level I believe that they will learn to trust and the teaching/learning relationship will begin to naturally occur.
As a recent graduate of BYU in Business Management (finance emphasis) I have been able to show excellence in my own school work. I love teaching and I am really passionate about making sure that my students achieve a deeper meaning of a subject. I like to take time to work with kids and make sure that they really understand the meaning of certain concepts. When teaching math I like to work with lots of hands on materials and visual aids. I believe that all kids are capable of learning and achieving at the highest standards.
I am currently a teacher at the Open Classroom in SLC. I have a full endorsement in Math. I have taught math for the last 3 years. I mostly teach grades 5-8. I also have an elementary degree so i also have taught all core subjects in 5th and 6th grade. I received my ESL endorsement through the SLC school district. I previously taught at Glendale Middle School where i taught a lot of ESL students. I love teaching and I love math.
