I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students. I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I wanted very much to teach at the Liberal Arts College level but was unable to secure a full-time, permanent position. In pursuit of this goal, I have completed an MS in Physics, all the coursework necessary for a MS in Mathematics, an MA in Philosophy, and I am working to complete my PhD in philosophy. I try to explain ideas in more than one way. If you can take an idea and look at from multiple angles then you have a better grasp of it. I also find that some explanations, for whatever reason, just don't work for some people and it's necessary to think of a new way to explain something. It wasn’t until my boys started school and I spent time in their classrooms that I realized I had a passion and an aptitude for working with young students. I was hired by the Boulder Valley School District in 2007 as a para and soon after was working one on one with special needs students in kindergarten. This realization prompted me to re-enter the college scene as a graduate student, which I finished this December. I do best working one on one with students or in very small groups.
