I am currently a general music teacher at Samsula Academy, an elementary school in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I teach general music classes to students in grades K-5, as well as chorus and band. I received my Bachelor's degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA and began my Master's studies at University of Central Florida. I have two bachelors degrees, however, I believe it is my experience teaching children that has helped me develop a good sense on how to approaching teaching scenarios. I have years of experience teaching children in academics, music, and dramatic arts, as well as coaching basketball and teaching golf at the professional level.
Each child is different. I always try to notice and acknowledge what benefits each student, as I think this applies to all forms of teaching from academics to athletics. Then, if the student understands and feels comforatable performing the task, I'll let them try it with me, being there to help out as needed. I have always been involved in the teaching industry. Weather that is after school care or tutoring and mentoring. I was an Americorps Volunteer from 2000-2001 working within education. I was an in class tutor for kindergarden, 3rd and 5th grades. I also taught at Apopka Middle and drop out prevention at Apopka High School. I facilitated a boys group every Tuesday night and a youth group every Wednesday night. I did summer camps and tutoring after school as well.
My teaching style is that we do not move on until you (the student) "get it". If that is an hour or two, that's fine, or a week or two, that is fine as well. I need the student to know the material in order to move on.
