The most important thing about my teaching style is that I believe every child can achieve academic excellence and can be interested in learning. I believe that it is up to me, as a teacher or a tutor, to engage the student(s). A huge part of this is being very transparent about where the student starts, what our goals are for where they are going, and how they are doing along the way. I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. This interest comes from having an instructor who them selves is a learner. A partnership in the tasks being presented usually results in the student wanting to understand the information and making connections. To promote critical thinking I present the material in a global manner, allowing the learner to relate the information/skill to the real-world.
Creative, innovative, and interesting lessons are my forte. I am experienced in providing a constructivist-based approach to knowledge acquisition. Hands-on lesson promote student involvement and increase the development of student responsibility towards their education. A Little Bit About Me...

I have coursework in special education and human development and family studies that has prepared me to work with children and families. My volunteer and paid experience as a substitute and child care teacher has allowed me to apply this knowledge directly to working with this group. In addition, I have mentored high school youth in the areas of scholarship and community service. As a freelance grant writer and nonprofit management professional, my reading and writing skills would be invaluable to young children.
