My passion for education blossomed while volunteering as a tutor with Somali refugee children in Pittsburgh, PA during college. I worked with families in their homes to develop English reading, writing, and speaking skills. After graduating with a B.A. in History and Political Science I joined Teach For America, where I taught first grade for two years and substitute taught pre-kindergarten through fifth grade for one year. A major focus while teaching first grade was developing literacy skills and instilling a love and enthusiasm for reading and writing in my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have coursework in special education and human development and family studies that has prepared me to work with children and families. My volunteer and paid experience as a substitute and child care teacher has allowed me to apply this knowledge directly to working with this group. In addition, I have mentored high school youth in the areas of scholarship and community service.
